When Cora encounters an elfin stranger who speaks of the magical world Clouden, an entire kingdom hidden up in the sky, she can’t wait to leave her boring, humdrum life behind. As Cora travels to her new home, where children sprout from the ground and rivers flow with chocolate, she finds herself transformed—and if that weren’t enough, she has to adjust to royal parents, talking Pegasuses, a raging war, and an alluring love interest as well.

REVIEW

WHOLE IN THE CLOUDS tells the story of a young girl, Cora, about to start middle school and she doesn’t like the idea of it. Which kid likes to go to school at that age, right? Cora falls asleep one day while she was in the woods and woke up to find someone named Barnworth Celius who tells her that she doesn’t belong in Earth—that she is from another planet called Clouden and this is where Cora’s journey begin.

I liked this story, but I wasn’t a fan of it. While it did have a creative way of describing Clouden—a place I wouldn’t mind going to because it sounds amazing—the story itself lacked depth and the characters as well. I was expecting a major war near the end but nothing major happened.

I think that for a Middle Grade story, it is okay. I have read Middle Grade genre—I own six books from the Fairy Realm series and I love it—and this story lacks a lot compared to others. The relationship that Cora and Patrick have could pass for Middle Grade, although they only really connect because they can hear their thoughts.

I guess that if you enjoy quick Middle Grade stories with not much happening, then I recommend this story. I would actually recommended it to little kids. They won’t even pay attention about everything I said above. I believe they will enjoy it.
