I have so many unread books on my laying around my apartment (I feel like I start every post saying this… lol), and I’m such a mood reader that it can be hard to get through my backlist books. I’ve seen a few bloggers and booktubers share content like this (Bookish Luna, Books and Lala are two that I’ve enjoyed), and I wanted to try it out myself. For the month of May I had my boyfriend pick out books for me to read. I made five stacks of books and he had to choose one from each. I didn’t give him many rules, he could choose my books however he wanted to. The five stacks he chose from are: started reading but put down, six books I have to finish or get rid of, previous Book of the Month books, backlist books I want to read soon, and ARCs.

Started Reading but Put Down

I’m somewhat ashamed to say this because I love both of these series SO MUCH, but I still haven’t finished A Conjuring of Light and Before the Devil Breaks You. Both of these books are HUGE, which means I can’t take them with me when I go anywhere, and they get pushed to the side for other books I read and take with me.

BF chose: A Conjuring of Light. This one sounds more interesting to me. It’s more about fantasy and adventure, and the other is too dark.

Six Books to Read or Get Rid Of

Even though I have to read these six books or get rid of them, I still haven’t read any yet. All of the books on the list sound appealing to me, and I know I’ll enjoy them when I read them, but sometimes I forget I own them and won’t pick them up.

BF chose: The Underground Railroad. I like this one because of the time period. It’s more realistic than the others, and I like the historical aspect. (After choosing he turned around to take a nap)

Book of the Month

I have so many books from book of the month, and I still haven’t read most of them (oops). I’m trying to read through them, because they sound SO INTERESTING. I honestly don’t know why I haven’t picked any of these up yet.

BF chose: The Broken Girls. At this point he was done choosing books for me, so I had to explain what they were about. He chose The Broken Girls because the inflection of my voice made it sound like I was intrigued by this one the most.

Backlist Books

I have overflowing shelves and stacks of books I haven’t read spread all over my apartment. I want to work through my unread books, so I’m making my boyfriend choose another book to read.

BF chose: Asking for It. This one is shorter than the rest and you have so much to read already. (how sweet)

I work at a library and one of the perks is getting ARCs that interest me. Because of this I sometimes go overboard with how many I take lol. I also have tons of ARCs from Netgalley and publishers that I plan to read soon. I made a stack of ARCs that are coming out soon and had my bf choose one.

BF chose: Alternative Remedies for Loss. Read this because it takes place in New York and India. It sounds like it’ll be a little adventure.

  1. This is so fun! I’ve loved seeing people do these posts– I think I’m going to have my best friend pick my June TBR. I am sad your BF didn’t pick Before the Devil Breaks You (because that’s my favorite series of… ever), but ACOL is a totally acceptable alternative. It’s such a good conclusion! The Underground Railroad was a unique and thought-provoking read. I hadn’t previously heard of Alternative Remedies for Loss, but it sounds so good! Happy reading this month! 🙂

    • Thanks, I really enjoy these types of post, and it was so much fun to do! I hope you enjoy your June TBR when you get to it. I was a little disappointed he didn’t choose it either, but I also am really loving A Conjuring of Light so I’m okay with his decision lol. I’m so excited to FINALLY get to The Underground Railroad. I hadn’t heard of Alternative Remedies For Loss, but I saw the cover and couldn’t help but take it.

  2. I love this twist, having your bf pick from the piles sounds like fun. I read The Underground Railroad, I really liked it (audiobook is good as well). I have The Broken Girls from BOTM sitting on my TBR as well and I need to get to it, I can’t wait to see what you end up thinking. I have 5 books from them I still need to read, but I have been subscribed for over a year now so overall pretty good on those books. Last month I picked Circe and loved it!

    • I wanted to make sure I actually wanted to read the books he chose, so I had to narrow it down to a few stacks lol. I’m SO excited to read both of those books, I’ve heard so many good things about them! I also got Circe from BOTM, and started it but haven’t finished it yet.
