I saw the movie!!! Okay, let’s get down to business. I have to admit I loved and enjoyed the movie a lot more than I thought I would. If you are expecting a porn movie, don’t. It really focuses on other aspects of the story and not fully on the sex scenes.

First let me tell you about my week before watching the movie on February 12, 2015.

On Friday, February 6, I was on my way to the movies to watch Jupiter Ascending. My fiance was already at the movies and he called me to say that they were selling tickets to Fifty Shades for Thursday, February 12. I probably broke a few driving laws but I got there and bought my tickets!!! I’ve had my tickets on my wallet all week and I bragged about having them hahaha I was so excited and then February 12 came!

I went at 3:35 PM and there weren’t many people. When I got out, there was a big line for the 6:55 PM screening (I found my mom on the line with her coworkers). Then I get a text that for the one showing at 9 PM, the line was huuuuuge!

Okay, now onto my mini review of the movie.

The Characters

I was shocked. I wasn’t expecting to like Dakota as Anastasia and Jamie as Christian.

Anastasia: Dakota gave a fierce look to Anastasia. In the book, we find Anastasia being kind of a weak character all the time. In the movie, Anastasia is strong-willed and fun. I loved seeing her in her quirky moments, especially when she drunk-called Christian. Now, that was a fun scene and everyone was laughing at the movie theater.

Christian: If you know me, then you know I wanted Matt Bomer as Christian Grey. I was so mad when he didn’t get picked to play Christian Grey. I get that he’s gay but come on! He would have been great! When the movie started, I kept thinking “Ugh, not Jamie Dornan.” As the movie progressed, I found myself loving Jamie as Christian Grey so much! I still have a soft spot for Matt Bomer because he would’ve been perfect but Jamie really brought it and gave it his all to Christian’s character. I especially loved when his mouth would twitch when he was trying not to smile. I kept staring at his lips 😀

The Romance and Sex

There was more to the movie than just sex, which really shocked me a lot. I really was expecting a porn movie. It gave area for other aspects of the story like the building friendship/relationship between Anastasia and Christian and there was more dialogue involved. But don’t worry, there were steamy scenes.

The first time I had to fan myself was when Christian had picked up a drunk Anastasia from a bar and brought her to his hotel room. The next morning, Christian enters the room and takes off his shirt while Anastasia is eating breakfast on the bed. He then proceeds to climb on the bed, like a lion on the prowl, looking like a Greek god. That’s when I had to say, “Gen, calm your hormones…just chill, relax.” And then the other scenes that followed were definitely hot.

Funny Moments

I sure wasn’t expecting to laugh while watching this movie but I did! It really had great funny moments that I enjoyed quite a lot. One of them being drunk Anastasia and my favorite was when Anastasia and Christian were discussing the terms of the contract. That was very entertaining to watch.

The Ending

I wanted to laugh when Anastasia said “Christian” then the elevator door’s close, then everything turns black and everyone at the movie theater started yelling. I was very worried that the movie was going to change the ending. I was so scared like you guys have no idea. I really wanted it to end like the book and I am so glad it did. It was heart-breaking to watch, though, when she walks out and Christian goes after her and she yells at him to stop and she just leaves but it stayed true to the book and that’s what I wanted.

I definitely liked that the movie wasn’t majorly focused on the sex because it would’ve been uncomfortable to watch with other people but at the same time I was disappointed because I was expecting those scenes to go all out. Still, the movie was amazing, the characters were amazing, the humor was great, the story was portrayed beautifully…I really loved it and I highly recommend it.

  1. You got me excited! My hubby just surprised me with the tickets for the movie for Saturday nights showing and he is actually going with me so that should be interesting lol…anyways I'm glad they did the movie right I was worried it wouldn't live up to the high expectations. I'm glad to hear Jamie was a good fit after all I didn't really care for him either when I heard he got the role.

  3. Great review! I didn't read the books so I didn't have any expectations when I saw it Wednesday night at an Universal employee screening. None of my co-workers had read the books either but we all liked the movie. One co-workers' wife came to see it on the lot with us and she said that the movie added more romance than is in book 1 and that she felt the pacing was too slow in the movie. I disagree with her about the pacing but then again I didn't read the books. I thought the movie was tastefully done and I love humor with my romance. So kudos to the filmmakers and I'm not just saying that because I work at Universal.

  4. I've heard the movie is a lot better than the book itself which surprises me a lot o.O I told my sister let's go see it, then my brother jumped in saying he wants to go to, and I just told him that's awkward.. Anyway, I'm really glad you liked it! I have to check it out now 😀 Loved the breakdown!
