After the stunning events of DC Universe: Rebirth, the world is left without Superman! Luckily, there is another Man of Steel to fill his shoes: the pre-Flashpoint Kal-El! However, can this new Superman protect the world while raising a super-son with his wife, Lois Lane? And should they help their boy use his new and rapidly increasing abilities, or hide them from the world?

Along with all-star illustrators Doug Mahnke (Final Crisis) and Patrick Gleason (Robin: Son of Batman), best-selling author Peter J. Tomasi brings you Superman, Volume 1: Son of Superman!

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Alright, the first thing you need to know about these graphic novels, is that you definitely should not read them in black and white on an e-reader! My eyes hurt, and I was confused as all giddy-up! However! I made a point of rereading them, and of doing so on the Kindle app on my phone, instead of on my Kobo Glo, and it was like a whole new world! (ten points if you sang that to the Aladdin tune)

Son of Superman is amazing!

The story focuses on Clark, Lois Lane, and their son Jon low-key living at the Clark farm, trying to fit in to the Smallville way of life. Jon is discovering his powers and struggling to understand why they must lie about everything they are and do. You will definitely feel all the feels reading this – so really, it probably isn’t for the action loving, super hero fan, but it’s definitely a great place to start if you aren’t that type! Warning: There is a scene with a cat… followed immediately by a scene without a cat. You may cry. In the end, there is heart warming family togetherness, which take place after Lois suits up in the Batman suit in his cave on the moon to save Superman, and you will walk away feeling all warm and fuzzy!

I am a big comic book fan – Superman being my favorite – so my first read through was actually pretty disappointing. Sure, Superman fights Eradicator, which is awesome, BUT you definitely need to adjust your expectations away from the standard to really enjoy this story!

Together again for the first time, the Emerald Archer meets Black Canary. Questioning everything Green Arrow believes in, Dinah Lance throws the hero’s world upside down, forcing him to question what he cares about more: his morals or his money?

BULL’S-EYE: “Readers are aching for the reunion of Green Arrow and Black Canary, and we’re finally going to give it to them.” says writer Benjamin Percy. “Also returning? Green Arrow’s goatee.”

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

The Life and Death of Oliver Queen is very well drawn and colored, but probably not the most well done story!

Otto Schmidt and Juan Ferreyra both had their incredibly talented hands in this masterpiece and dang did they do it well! The art is amazing, and if you pick this book up for no other reason than to ogle at the beauty, that is totally okay! Another couple reasons would be to see Black Canary, and read a story in which Oliver Queen is not a total douchebag. Seriously, why does everyone write the Green Arrow / Oliver Queen character like he is a vigilante dick? Even the TV show paints him in that light, and I totally gave up on it after a season and a half. The Green Arrow rebirth is an amazing through back to everything Ollie! Between his goatee and the return of Diggle, this will satisfy any old school Green Arrow lover – especially the ones, like me, who had their heart broken by the TV show!

  1. My alltime favourite Green Arrow still is and probably always will be Oliver from the TV series Smallville! *.* I watched Arrow for 4 seasons until I got stuck and I don’t know when I’ll continue it. But I haven’t started the Rebirth series yet.

Superman is my alltime favourite superhero and I cried when they killed him off at the end of The New 52. I haven’t read the comic yet, though, I just couldn’t bring myself to it. But I didn’t start the rebirth one either 😛

The rebirths I’m reading are Wonder Woman (so good!), The Flash (my fave rebirth series so far!), Nightwing (I’m in love with Dick Grayson), Titans and Superwoman 😀 But there are so many comics I’d still want to read :3

First of all, you are my new favorite person!! It is so rare to find someone in this book loving community who can talk comics and superheros!! So happy to “meet” you!!

Next, Smallville was amazing!! Superman is my all time favorite as well – my Superman merch is second only to my Harry Potter merch Lol. I loved Oliver in Smallville, but I think Lex was my favorite character from that show! I just bought into his character so much!! I had to give up on Arrow the TV show at the end of season two! I just… it was like the walking dead for me – repetitive. Like, okay, I get it, you’re saving the city… DO SOMETHING!!!

The Flash rebirth is so good!!!!! It’s my favorite too!! And I actually just got an Aquaman ARC that I am sworn to secrecy on so all I say is thumbs up (shhh)!!

I totally suggest you get into the Superman rebirth! It is actually very good!

      • Yayy! 😀 I know the feeling, sadly I don’t know a lot of people (or fellow bloggers) yet who also enjoy comics as much as I do!

Oh my!!! SAME! My merch collection podest is the following: 1. Harry Potter, 2. Superman (and his allies), 3. Loki 😛
noooooooo, how could you like Lex? I hated him so much, he’s probably as far down on my liking-of-a-person-list as Voldemort.

I just figured out that DC is on Netgalley and now I’m giving my best to try to get some of those ARCs, too. (But I probably won’t be approved because I haven’t reviewed anything on NetGalley yet and my Blog reach is too poor :P) But a girl can dream, right? 😛 And it’d save me so much money! :0 I spend tooooo much on comics. I just bought the entire Spiderverse Volume Collection two days ago :0 (Now my christmas money’s gone… :/) Have you read it? Are you a fan of Spiderman or do you not like Marvel?

The Superman Vol. 1 is out now, right? I held it together when I went to my local comic store two days ago and didn’t buy it (okay, I didn’t actually have that much of a say in the matter because all my money was spent on the rebirths I had subscribed to and Spiderverse :P). But I’ll definitely read it some day!
