I despise Erik Winter.
Heās arrogant and cruelāa man I wouldnāt wish on my worst enemyāand by some twisted turn of fate, heās my new Olympic gymnastics coach.
Iāve had to contend with gruff coaches in the past, but Erik is far worse. His stern demeanor complements a body built for intimidation, and his reprimands come from a mouth so cunning, I know it could strip me of my defensesāif I let it.
Though each of us would love to be rid of the other forever, we are bound to each other by need and necessity. Iām his rising star, his best shot at proving himself to his critics. And without a coach, I have zero chance of winning gold in Rio.
The easiest way forward would be to wave a white flag and make peace with the man Iāll be sharing close quarters with for the foreseeable future, but he is intent on war.
Fine. By. Me.
If he pushes me, Iāll push back harder. If he wants to test me, to play with my head, Iāll show him just how many boundaries Iām willing to cross. Because I know itās not a choice between winning or warringānot if you can have them both. At the end of it all, I plan on leaving Rio with gold around my neck and his icy heart in the palm of my hand.
I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
Brie never disrespect her coaches and never talks back to them, but if someone doesn’t respect her, she won’t respect back. Unfortunate for Brie, the coach she was supposed to train with got hospitalized and his son Erik was there to take his place. As soon as Brie and Erik meet, there’s so much tension between them. They cannot stand each other at the gym and so their fighting begins. Brie has a major backbone. She would be so sassy when talking back to Erik. It would infuriate Erik so much! Seeing both of these characters act this way, made me all kinds of excited. I love the hate-to-lovers trope. And let me tell you, this is a real hate relationship until it turns to more.
He was an asshole and he was picking a fight with me in front of his entire team. For some reason, I was his target, and I wasn’t going to cower in fear.
Erik is so cold and mean, but he’s hot! The guy is a gymnast, for Pete’s sake. He has the body, the looks, and the attitude to go along with it that makes Brie (and the reader) crave more. Unfortunately, he’s a heart breaker! I broke my heart one too many times! Did I forgive him?…. Yes, yes I did. You don’t turn away someone like him, okay?
Toying with Brie was quickly becoming my favorite pastime and a part of me wondered why I was doing it.
Let’s talk about that sexual tension. I don’t even know where to begin. I think this is the most tension I’ve felt off both characters from any book I’ve read. It was so thin, it was so close to shattering. Now, the hottest and steamiest scene I read has to be the yoga scene. If you read the book, I’m sure you agree with me. That scene was… I was speechless. I was beet-red with my jaw dropped open. You need a fan or an A/C for this, so be warned and prepared. Seriously, it’s the hottest book Rachel has written and I applaud her for writing such a phenomenal scene.
If you expect love to come when it’s convenient, you’ll be waiting your entire life.
I absolutely loved the side characters, such as Lexi and Rosie, who are in Brie’s team. Both girls are so polar opposite, but both were hilarious! Lexi is the wild card. She loves to party and hook up, but she’s so straight up. She will tell you like it is without holding back and I loved that about her. Rosie is only 17 and so very quiet and shy, but she’s so nice and loyal. They made the book hilarious and fun. Another character that made a great addition is Erik’s grandfather. He was so sweet and fun! I wish I had more of him in the story.
“You guys are the most fucked up, yet entertaining couple I’ve ever been around. Better than TV.”
The only thing I didn’t like was the fact that while Brie does have a backbone, she’s putty at the hands of Erik. There were so many times I wanted her to stay strong and not give in to him. I mean, he would push her away so much and hurt her. I wanted her to have some dignity and stay away to make him suffer. When it happened, I was celebrating because I needed Brie to be strong and thankfully, she ended up being just that.
Erik wasn’t a good guy. He wasn’t going to run after me and plead for a place in my heart.
Out of Bounds runs at the same time asĀ Settling the Score. Remember, they are in the Olympics in the same year, just with a different sport. In fact, Freddie is mentioned in the book, and Andie appears. Since it’s happening at the same time, these books can be read out-of-order and as stand-alones.
Overall,Ā Out of Bounds was hot, sexy, exhilarating, steamy, and funny. It’s definitely a book I highly recommend because youĀ will enjoy it from beginning to end!

Great review, Genesis! I’ve had Settling the Score on my TBR list for a while now and added Out of Bounds because of all your status updates on Goodreads! I may have to bump this up on my TBR list. LOL.
You need to start these books ASAP! They are a must. Keep a fan nearby though
Everyone is talking about how hot this book is and I need it for exactly that reason. I don’t need anything else to convince me to pick it up haha (i’m so predictable!).
I’m happy to hear this was fun and sexy for you, Gen! Fab review!
IT IS HOT! A few scenes are sexy but it’s the yoga scene, Nick. The yoga scene!
I have been seeing this one EVERYWHERE!!! I didn’t read the first one but looks like I need to add both to my TBR!! Great review!!
Add them both today, buy them, and read them š
Oh my gosh YES, the TENSION!!! And god bless the yoga scene.
Haha bless that scene!
Lisa loved this one too! That settles it… I need to drop ALL of the things and read some RS Grey!!
YOU DO! YAYYY!!!
Ha..this sounds like fun with plenty of snark and tension!
IT IS!!! You have to read this one!
GIRLLLLLL I needs this asap. I can definitely see us sending a million and one voice clips surrounding the ” yoga scene. ” I have Settling the Score, but around the time I purchased it, I fell into a slump, so hopefully this month I’ll get to it, especially since it’s still nice and warm. Perfect time for the setting! I really love the way you set up your reviews. You don’t say too much, (like myself lol) but you still manage to pull readers in, I sooo want this!
Hahaha I went crazy over it. Aww! That means a lot! Thank you <3
I don’t think I mentioned it in my review, but I read that yoga scene in public. At a restaurant. I’m not entirely sure what shade of red I was, but damn. Great book all the way around. Loved the characters (even when I wanted to smack Erik) and I loved the story progression. Wonderful review!
YOU DID?! Oh my gosh, how did that feel?!
Thank you!
Great review! I just got both of these and it seems like the perfect time to read them! I’m excited
