SIX BOOKS ON MY TBR I NEED TO READ (OR I HAVE TO GET RID OF THEM)

April 2, 2018 | Posted by Victoria in Bookish Lists, TBR | 21 Comments

My tbr shelf is out of control. I have no more space on it, but so many more books I want to add to it. Some of the books on myshelf have been there for years, and I still haven’t picked them up. One of my goals this year is to participate in the #unreadshelfproject2018 on Instagram, which is to read more of the books on your unread shelf (pretty self explanatory). To help me out with this project, I’m going to share with you 6 of the books on my tbr that I am definitely going to move off my shelf this year! To make sure I actually read these books, I’m going to be strict with myself and get rid of them if I don’t read them by the end of the year.

The Underground Railroad – I’ve had this on my shelf for over a year. I’ve heard good things about it, but I haven’t picked it up yet. I really want to read it, so with the push that I’ll have to finish it or get rid of it, I know I’ll get to it this year.

The Fifth Season – I haven’t had this on my shelf as long as some of the other books, but it’s one I really want to get through so I’m going to make sure I read it this year (hopefully sooner rather than later). I started it, but put it down earlier, hopefully next time I pick it up I make it all the way through.

the Casual Vacancy – The first book J.K. Rowling wrote post Harry Potter, I bought it because of her but I still haven’t picked  it up. I’m definitely using this as a push to finally get to it (or get rid of it).

Always and Forever Lara Jean – Another book that hasn’t been on my shelf for as long, but one I definitely need to read. I know the reason I haven’t read it is because it’s the finale to a series and I don’t want the end to lessen my love for the other two books.

The Problem with Forever – This book is on here because I know if I don’t force myself to read it now, it’ll sit on my shelf for years. I haven’t really heard anything about this book, but I’ve enjoyed Jennifer L. Armentrout’s books in the past so hopefully I enjoy this one as well.

the Bone Season – I’ve heard a lot of good things about this series, and I really want to read it and hopefully continue with the series, so I’m putting this on the list so I make sure I finally read it.

Do you have any books that have been on your tbr for way too long? What are they?

  1. I also really need to focus on my unread shelf! And to declutter. I have way too many books. I’ve been good about not picking up too many more, but I still have too many. I have only read The Problem with Forever, and I definitely liked it. It’s been a bit since I read it, but I know I liked it.

    Good luck!

    • I’m trying so hard not to pick up new books because of the ones I still haven’t read, but it’s SO HARD! I’m glad to hear that you enjoyed The Problem with Forever, that makes me more excited to finally pick it up! Thanks!

  2. I love this idea– I really need to tackled some of my owned unread books, too. I loved The Underground Railroad and Always & Forever, Lara Jean! Both verrrrry different books, but both so good. I’ve started and then put down The Fifth Season so many times; it’s one of those books that I know has a lot of literary merit and is unquestionably well-written, but I think it’s just not my thing, maybe?? Anyway, good luck with your TBR! Can’t wait to hear what you think of these!

    • I’ve heard so many good things from so many people about The Underground Railroad, that I’m surprised I still haven’t read it! It’s so frustrating when you pick up a book you’ve heard so much about, and then it’s not for you :/ Thanks!

  3. Hey Victoria! Two of the books you listed have been sitting on my TBR pile for the longest time. I should really get my act together and get those read. I was so anxious to read them and now they’ve fallen off my radar.

    Have a great week, Victoria!

    • I hate when that happens! There are so many on my shelves that I was so excited for at one point, but now I just feel meh about them. Hopefully you can get to some of the books on your tbr as well! Have a great week!

Yep, I read it 4 or 5 years ago and I loved it although I have seen some terrible reviews of it. When I read Big Little Lies it sort of reminded me of The Casual Vacancy, not so much in the story or characters, but in the way it was told from several different characters and how it all tied together. And fyi, I have at least 500 books in my house that are TBR, unfortunately more great books are constantly being published! LOL It’s a good addiction, at least, but books take up a LOT of space, which I am sure you know! Yesterday and tonight, I have been going through all the books in my house, my overflowing bookshelves and small piles everywhere, and so far have around 200 for donation in my trunk. Slowly but surely I am going to get my reading organized.

  4. The Underground Railroad was excellent, I read it last year and really loved it. I alsoread The Bone Season as well and it was a good read. I honestly thing reading it with a group of people made it a lot more enjoyable than if I read it on my own though.

    • I’m glad to hear you enjoyed those books, it makes me more excited to finally pick them up! That’s good to know, maybe I’ll buddy read a couple of the books on this list.

    • It’s something I definitely struggle with, so I’m excited and determined to finally dwindle down my unread shelf! Good luck with your shelf!

    • Same, I tend to buy multiple books at a time and unfortunately some of those make it on to the shelf where they stay for way too long. Awesome, I hope you can make it through a good amount of your books!
