Welp, Tome Topple is over, and if you ask me, I am glad to have a break from attempting to read so many daunting books! I’m glad I participated in Tome Topple. It was fun, but way more work and dedication than I thought it would take. I read quite a bit these two weeks, but most were not books for the readathon.

Day 1 was great, I was super into my book and flew through it and almost completed it in one day! After finishing it on day 2, I didn’t pick up another tome until close to the end of the week.

My first book was Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan. It was so good, I couldn’t put it down! I’ve had this book on my shelf for years, and I don’t know why I waited so long to read it because I really enjoyed it! There was so much petty drama and some of the things characters said were so ridiculous, and I COULDN’T GET ENOUGH. This book is the first in a series, and after completing this book, I decided to continue the series.

After finishing Crazy Rich Asians, I didn’t pick up another book for Tome Topple until the end of the week. The second book I picked up was Replica by Lauren Oliver. I read 146 pages, and decided to DNF this for the time being. I enjoy Lauren Oliver’s books, but I wasn’t in the mood for it, and since I was forcing myself to read, not much reading got accomplished.

During the second week of the readathon I finally picked up another tome to complete. I didn’t want to read anything on my tbr, so I picked up Lord of Shadows. This wasn’t on my tbr because I wanted to read books I hadn’t started yet, and when I picked it up for the readathon I was halfway into the book. I started reading on page 372 at the beginning of the week, and completed it on the last day of Tome Topple.

I had four books on my tbr. I completed one of them, and read 1,000 pages during the readathon.

I’m proud of how much I read these two weeks. I know I would have made more progress if I made more time for the tomes and stuck to my tbr, but there were a few days where I just didn’t want to pick up any of my books. I also found it exhausting to continue reading the same book for multiple days in a row, especially since they were all so big.

To encourage myself to read more I made notecards with phrases on them. I saw someone doing this on Twitter, and decided to try and see if it worked for me. Using the notecards in the book are not really my thing, anytime I was close to a notecard the page would be sticking up and I couldn’t read it until I moved the card. I ended up just taking out the notecards and not paying attention to them.

I’m so glad I participated in Tome Topple, knowing that there were other people reading big books, and seeing everyone’s encouraging tweets made reading these tomes fun. I’m glad I participated because I had an excuse to read the big books that have been sitting on my shelf and had the encouragement of so many other people in the book community. I do plan on participating in this readathon again the next time it is being hosted, because I enjoyed it, and I still have so many daunting books sitting on my tbr.

If you participated in the readathon let me know how you did and what you thought about it!

1,000 pages, bravo!!! I’ve never heard of this read-athon. Out of curiosity what is the event link? I actually started a big ass book yesterday via audiobook because I need to be done with the entire series before the Authors in the OC book signing event in mid-October.

My big ass book read is THOUGHTLESS by SC Stephens, and I’m only reading it because several books friends insisted a couple of years ago that I must read it. They even gifted me books 1 and 2 to get me started for my birthday 2 years ago, but I wasn’t ready to give it a shot until now. I loved SC Stephens CONVERSION vampire romance trilogy, so I’m a fan of her writing. However, I’m not a fan of the cheating trope which is why I put off reading THOUGHTLESS for so long. That’s not a spoiler since it’s mentioned on the blurb if I’m not mistake. =]

Congrats on reading 1,000 pages! And I really enjoyed Crazy Rich Asians too! It’s absurd how lavish they live, and it was very entertaining. And how’d you enjoy Lord of Shadows?? That ending tho!!!

    • Thanks! It was so crazy, I kept having to put the book down to wrap my head around some of the stuff they said lol. I really liked Lord of Shadows, I can’t wait I have to wait so long until the next book!
