Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme, hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, where we get to make bookish lists!!

This week’s topic: 2017 Books I’m Excited For!

Amanda’s Picks

As you can see, I am super excited for a lot of “next-in-a-series” reads!
And really, how could I not be?! Have you started any of these?! I am DYING over here!!
I guess technically, I did not need to include The Song Rising, since I already have an ARC,
BUT I chose my top ten because they were the first ten that came to mind!!

And yes, all but one are YA…
BUT it’s what I am into right now, okay?!
It isn’t my fault that none of my non-young adult authors are doing anything good right now!!!
I am looking at you, Dean Koontz!!!

Sarah J Maas has THREE books coming out this year, A Court of Wings and Ruin – which I guessed the name of in advance and won a giveaway! – the sixth (and final?) book in her Throne of Glass series, and a novella which takes place in said Throne of Glass world! So I cheated and used the one picture for both ToG books! Hehehe
I only discovered SJM in 2016, thanks to the bookstagram community, and I basically spent the summer inhaling all of her books, culminating in the release of the fifth ToG book, Empire of Storms.

The Last of August is the second in the Charlotte Holmes series of Sherlock Holmes spin offs.
And I am OBSESSED with Sherlock Holmes.
No. Not Benedict Cumberbatch’s Holmes… The character Sherlock Holmes from the tales spun by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle! And just about all of the spin offs EXCEPT Benedict’s. But more on that some other time!

The End of Oz is the fourth and final book in its series – and I have not even started the series!!
Why than is this on the list, you ask?!
Because my list of “in process” book series’ I am reading is Too. Damn. LONG. I will read this series when I can read it in full!! *shakes fist*

Let’s just start with the most obvious “in need of explanation” book – The Canadaland Guide to Canada – Published in America by Jesse Brown.
Yes, that is Drake on the cover. Yes, he is loving on a moose.
Yes, I am Canadian.
I am dying to read this book! It is going to HILARIOUS!!! I genuinely love with Americans make fun of Canadians! (of course, as long as it is meant in good fun… words can hurt)
With all of the “I’m moving to Canada” opinions that have popped up since Trump won, this book is going to be fantastic!! And OH YES, I will definitely post a review here ASAP!!!

Because You Love to Hate Me is yet another collection of short stories by a bunch of YA authors who’s books are slaying!! Why would anyone not want to buy ONE book with a bunch of stories they would willingly buy as individual books?! Honesly, this book just saves me money.

Strange the Dreamer, and Carve the Mark are standalone books that sound like they are going to be totally incredible!!! Yes, I know there is some controversy around Carve the Mark (and if you don’t know, I am not the person to ask for information about it) but I do not allow my opinion to be swayed by chatter – I form my own.

And finally, Flame in the Mist.
Remember earlier when I said I was pumped for the fourth Oz book because I didn’t want to throw myself down the bottomless put of despair that is being mid-incomplete series?!?! (I am paraphrasing!)
Well…. I hate myself for wanting to read this book… and I refuse to discuss it any longer!!! (LOL)

Go forth and read!

  1. OHMYGOSH you won that giveaway?! That’s amazing! I just bought ACOTAR in December and I’m so really excited to read it. I need to get my hands on A Study of Charlotte so I can read The Last of August (how can you not like Benedict?!)

Such a great list of books. I’ve not seen the Canada one before but you’ve really piqued my interest. I also can’t wait to get Because You Love to Hate Me. I’m like you on the Dorothy Must Die books – might as well wait until they are all out because I’ve yet to start either.

Right?! Why put yourself through the emotional hell that is the sequel wait?!
Have you read An Ember in the Ashes? Or The Bone Season? I am DYING for the sequels and they take FOREVER to come out!!

  3. Ah Sarah J Mass – her books can never appear fast enough 🙂 I cant express how excited I am for ACOWAR – so jealous of you managing to win a copy – but good for you! All the best for 2017!

    • Amanda Mitchell

I hear ya!! But I can’t complain with a once a year plan… So many other authors are killing me with their two, three year waits!!

  4. I just got A court of thorns and roses and A Court of Mist and Fury for Christmas because everyone has been raving about that series. I also bought The Lunar Chronicles series by Marissa Meyer so maybe by the time I’m done reading all of those the new book will be out. haha!

    • Amanda Mitchell

I haven’t read the Lunar Chronicles yet!! But I own them all!! Ugh my tbr lol
I read ACOMAF in a day!! As soon as I picked it up, I couldn’t put it down! You’ve been warned!!!

  5. Oooo, Amanda I think it was top ten debuts of 2017? I don’t do TTT but I’ve commented on several other TTT posts for today and they were all debut lists. 😀 Oh well. Flame in the Mist is my #1 most anticipated! I think Strange the Dreamer is my #2. There hasn’t been a Laini Taylor book in sooooo long. I’m reading Carve the Mark next and I’m not particularly excited to read it anymore but I have to give it my fair shot. We’ll see how it goes!

    Happy reading, Amanda!
