This week’s topic: Top Ten Underrated / Hidden Gem Books I’ve Read

Amanda’s Picks

My “twist” or “version” of this topic is they are the top ten gems from my entire adult life (roughly 10 years), and underrated / hidden within my community / group of friends and family. Each pick is both unless otherwise stated.

  1. White Oleander by Janet Fitch (underrated)
  2. Anything and Everything Chuck Klosterman
  3. Every book that has had a movie come out in the last six years
  4. Tommy Lee’s autobiography
  5. Steve Job’s nearly-auto biography
  6. Bruce Springsteen’s autobiography (because The Boss, gtfoh)
  7. The Odd Thomas series by Dean Koontz
  8. The Frankenstein series by Dean Koontz
  9. The Lives of the Mayfair Witches series by Anne Rice
  10. Crooked Little Vein by Warren Ellis

Gen’s Picks

There are so many underrated books out there! Some I have on my list are books I read around 2 years ago and others are very recent. (Covers will link to my reviews)

Young Adult

Before You is one of my fave YA reads! It has similarities one of my fave series, Perfect Chemistry by Simone Elkeles. (Check my video review on YouTube!Unlit Star is an emotional story that I really enjoyed. It has similarities to The Notebook and A Walk to RememberAll We Have Left is beyond heart-wrenching. It tells the story of 9/11 as well as present time. Hello? truly surprised me. It has 5 different POV’s but I enjoyed them all, especially the unique format this book is written in.

Contemporary New Adult/Adult

The funny, quick and/or light reads.

Undecided is the definition of New Adult! I’ve read this book twice already and I see myself re-reading it again and again. Blurred Lines is my third fave book by LL. I so very loved this friends-to-more romance novel. Poles Apart is another book I’ve re-read a bunch of times (I lost count).

The emotional, heart-wrenching, hopeful reads.

Unbreak My Heart and Change of Heart are two wonderful and hot novels that had my heart being torn apart by all the angst that was beyond addicting! If You Leave and Before We Fall are two of the very rare books that have made me ugly cry and sob. I highly recommend these two! Bring Me Back is a book that gutted me from the first few chapters. It deals with loss and it had me clutching my blanket, trying to hold my tears at bay. This is where my love for paper cranes started. Results May Vary is an amazing story about self-discovery that I thoroughly enjoyed and wish more people would read.

Paranormal New Adult

The Revelation Series has to be my favorite paranormal series ever. The first book does have lots of explanations and it can be dragging at times, but the rest of the books are so action packed and hot! Asher is one of my fave book boyfriends <3 The third book has to be my favorite of the whole series, even though it does have a gut-wrenching ending, it’s still my fave one! Vein of Love was a book I wasn’t sure of reading until Sarah mentioned she loved it more than The Revelation Series. Of course, I had to pick it up and gosh, I did love it! It’s so angsty and so unbelievably hot! You will need all the air conditioning in the world!

  1. I remember reading White Oleander when it came out and loved it. I also wanted to put our oleander bush to use. lol. And I love Odd Thomas. I need to continue the series (from book 4, I think) – its been years, though. You two listed a lot of books I want to read too.

  2. Okay, so that’s a whole lot of books that I need to check out now 😉 Thanks for completely exploding my TBR! #bookwormproblems

P.S. 2017 was supposed to be THE year I got that dreaded TBR under control. I’m going to blame you ladies when it doesn’t happen (for the xteenth year in a row!).

  3. Whelp. So many to consider here. OMG. When am I going to read Undecided?! It’s been on my list forever. Gah.

Thanks for sharing, ladies. Honestly, I didn’t know where to start. Lol.

  4. GAHH how have I STILL not read Hello? I have wanted to read it for ages, and yet somehow it keeps slipping under my radar. Also, I TOTALLY agree with All We Have Left- that book was awesome, and I don’t understand how it doesn’t have more love! Great picks, ladies!
