Weekly Latte Rewind 1.19 | Happy 2020

January 19, 2020 | Posted by Victoria in Weekly Latte Rewind | 0 Comments

Weekly Latte Rewind is a weekly feature where we will recap posts, books read, books we received and other bookish stuff. We’ve linked to Stacking the Shelves hosted by  Tynga’s Reviews and The Sunday Post hosted by  Caffeinated Book Reviewer.

  •  So…it’s been a while…again. It was the holidays so whatever it’s fine. I’ll try to be more consistent now. I have a notebook full of ideas of posts I wanted to write, it was just so hard to get the motivation to sit down and write the posts. Since I was on break, I really took that to heart and didn’t do much lol.
  •  Spring semester finally started this last week. I can’t believe this is my last semester of grad school. I’ve been in school for so many dang years that it’s so unreal that after May I’ll be a ~real~ adult. Since the semester started, I’ll start being crazy busy again while collecting all my hours, but I’m so excited because I love what I’m doing and my sites.
  •  Since it’s been a while since I last posted a wrap up, I’m just going to share all the books I’ve read so far in 2020 (2020 I can’t believe that!).

for review

I received an ebook of Mermaid Inn a couple months ago, but got a physical copy in the mail this past week (which I’m super excited about!) I also got Headliners as part of an Instagram tour, and I’m so so excited because I’m really loving this series and can’t wait to read this book. So I technically didn’t get this from review from the publishers, but at work I sometimes get ARCs, and I was able to snag You Are Not Alone, which I’m excited about because I enjoyed their previous novel last year!

I love, love, love true crime and was so excited to see this book! I put a hold on my library, but was going to have to wait a few months, so when I saw the ebook was on sale for $1.99 I had to get it. I’m hoping to pick this up soon because my friend read it and really enjoyed it recently!

Rebel – I finally read this novel that I’ve had an ARC of for forever (oops). I shared my review for this a few weeks ago, so if you want to read more of my thoughts check that out!

Space, Time – I binge read the second and third book in Penny Reid’s Laws of Chemistry series during the first week of the new year. I love Penny Reid, and I’m so excited to be reading so much of her work.

Love Her or Lose Her – There’s been so many mixed reviews about this book, but I really enjoyed it and gave it four stars. I’ll go more in depth in my review which will be up soon, but I understand what people don’t like about it, but I didn’t have a problem with any of it.

Kissing Galileo – My first five star of the year! By now everyone knows how much I’m loving Penny Reid and isn’t surprised that I loved this book. Honestly, this may be one of my favorite books of hers! I loved the characters, and the plot, and I just want my own physical copy so I can keep rereading this!

Irresistible – I caved and signed up for Kindle Unlimited last month, and downloaded so many books and added so many to my rec list. Irresistible was the first book I read from that haul because I’ve heard so many great things about it, and I totally agree and get it. It’s an age gap romance, and such a fun swoony read. I immediately downloaded the rest of the series and am planning on finishing them soon!

Tweet Cute – I have nothing but good things to say about this book. I loved it so much and can’t wait to share my review with yall. If you’re planning on reading this, have a grilled cheese on standby because you will definitely be craving one after finishing this story!

Auld Lang Mine – I bought Sarah Spade’s Holiday Hunks series last year and really enjoyed the first two, and thought I’d enjoy this one as well. Unfortunately this one was pretty meh and I gave it 2 stars. Even though it was a novella, there were things the characters did they seemed totally out of character for them.

The Wall of Winnipeg and Me – I love Mariana Zapata, but haven’t read a book from her in a while. I decided to buddy read this with a bunch of lovely ladies on Instagram, and I’m so glad I did. I knew I was going to love this book, but was a little intimidated because of the size (almost 700 pages!). I’m glad I finally read it, because it reignited my obsession and I can’t wait to read/reread more Mariana Zapata this year!

I may be hella behind on ARCs from 2019, but I’m doing a pretty good job staying up to date with my 2020 releases! I’m like 20% into Mermaid Inn and enjoying it so far! I’m also reading When They Call You a Terrorist, which is beautifully written, but can be difficult to read at times because it’s heartbreaking. I’m also listening to the audiobook of The Grief Keeper, which is another beautiful but heartbreaking book. I’m trying to get into a morning routine where I don’t immediately start doing counseling stuff, so instead of listening to a counseling podcast while I get ready, I listen to an audiobook.
