GEN’S LIFE HAPPENINGS

  • My best friend and I went to Cafelados and had a really good time. We had a Brownie a la Mode, which was… Epic. So much deliciousness!

  • This week I decided to straighten my hair myself, something I have never done. Took me 3 hours but it turned out better than when they do it at the hair salon, and I saved $20 so it’s definitely worth the three hours. I also went out with my best friend to It’s Coffee Time and then put Reggaeton music cranked up in the car, which was another fun time 😀

AMANDA’S LIFE HAPPENINGS

Another week come and gone!

Spencer and I went out to a drop-in centre for the first time this week! Here in Ontario, Canada we have government funded places called Ontario Early Years Centres for children aged 0 to 5 and their caregivers to go, play, read, participate in circle time, etc. I used to go all the time when I was a nanny, but had not taken Spencer to one yet for two reasons: 1) I have very high anxiety and have been finding it difficult to leave the house, 2) I wanted Spence to be more ‘sturdy’ and independent before we went. We had a great time and met a bunch of new baby and caregiver friends! Hopefully, we will get to go every Wednesday!

I love yoga!! I have always loved yoga! I’ve gone on and off to different studios for the last six years, usually depending on my fiances, where I lived, where I worked, and how bad my depression and anxiety were. This week, Spencer and I started baby and caregiver yoga! That’s right! We started TWO new activities! We now do yoga for an hour on Fridays and it is awesome!!! We are very, very lucky to live in a city that offers not only many programs for mom and baby, but provides the financial assistance to take part in those programs if you’re in a situation, like I am, where the little money you have is barely enough to just live.

#THEGRISHAREADALONG STARTED THIS WEEK!
Are you reading with us?! Chat one, chapters 1-12, is TODAY (Saturday) on my instagram!

    • Haha it’s a coffee shop and they have lots of coffee drinks that have ice cream in them and are so good!!
I basically sent an email to their general teen email and got two responses 🙂

  • Grace Fonseca

Frost Blood is very popular this week. I hope you love all of your new books this week.

    Grace @ Books of Love

  • Glad you both had such great weeks!! Hope next week is just as awesome!

  • So exciting that you both got Frostblood! That was one of my favorites last year (though it published this past week). Great review of that one, Gen. =) Amanda, Gen mentioned that you like The Bone Season series, and I see the photographic evidence! I got an ARC of The Song Rising last week and I flipped out. She said you got an eARC – I hope you like it!

Have an awesome weekend, ladies. =)

Alyssa @ The Eater of Books!

  • Well, now I need to go look up Frostblood! Amanda, I hope that you enjoy your yoga class! I tried some yoga through YouTube videos, but I just couldn’t get into it. Have a good week, ladies! 🙂

  • There really are some great free programs available here in Ontario for all kinds of things. The hard part is finding them as many aren’t advertised. I’m looking forward to being able to take my little guy to our local Early Years Centre, as well. Hope you are enjoying your new activities, Amanda. Yoga is wonderful for helping with stress and anxiety, I’ve found.

Hope you both have a great week.

  • I definitely understand your struggles with anxiety. I also have anxiety and sometimes have trouble leaving the house. I get panic attacks so I’m always worried I will have one while I’m out with my daughter. But good for you for joining in on two different activities! That’s huge! So happy for you.

I REALLY want to read Frostblood. I’ve seen a lot of great reviews about it.

Hope you both have a great weekend!

  • Wow, so many great books! It looks like you all had an amazing week! I’m really looking forward to Frostblood. I just need to get my hands on a copy! 🙂

Stacy Renee @ Lazy Day Literature

  • Gen, your photos of food in these posts always make me so hungry! Also, omg, the struggle of straightening curly hair is SO REAL. I haven’t straightened mine myself in like, over five years, because it always takes me over two hours. Amanda, all of the programs in your city sound like so much fun!! I hope you and Spencer are enjoying them! I can’t wait to hear y’all’s thoughts on Talking as Fast as I Can and Frostblood. I hope you ladies have a wonderful week in reading and life! <3

  • I can’t wait to read my copy of Frost Blood. It looks like you both had an incredible week! Looking forward to reading your thoughts on these books, ladies.

  • Gen – I just remembered why I hate your blog. It always makes me hungry. I kid, I don’t really hate your blog (I love it). So I read the first book in the Heartbreaker Bay series and didn’t…love it. So I haven’t continued it. But I kinda miss finding out about the other characters from the series.

Amanda – Can’t wait to see what you though of Heartless. I want to read it, but I’m putting it off. I’ve heard missed things.

  • Charlie Anderson

I can’t imagine straightening my hair for three hours. It takes me about 45 minutes to fully blow-dry (which I have taken to doing every one in a while now), and about an hour to straighten. All of those programs and offerings sound amazing! I don’t know if it’s anxiety or people just piss me off too easily, but I like to minimize my interaction with the public as much as possible. I hope you and Spencer enjoy your new activities!

  • Gen, I have to say I think you’re very patient to spend 3hrs on your hair…. Mine’s really short at the moment and it’s not uncommon that I forget to comb it at all!

Amanda – I’m glad you went to the drop in centre as it sounds like a great experience.

  • Gen – your week sounds AWESOME! And your hair looked great! How’s the reading slump going?? Well done on ACOMAF!? Have you started on that series yet? Your bookstagram pics have given me a serious coffee craving now…

Amanda – The drop in centres sound fantastic and I’m glad that a good time was had by all. Yoga is something that I’d love to try one day (in fact, I was just looking it up last weekend!) and I’m glad you’ve found such a cool spot to go.

You review haul looks great. I love the cover of Shadows of the Forest (I need to go look that one up!) and I want to start Rebel of the Sands soon. Hope you enjoyed Talking as Fast as i can (that’s on my TBR) and I loved Heartless so I hope you did too!

    Have a great week ladies!

  • Love the hair Gen!! It looks great!! You obviously don’t need a hairdresser for that! 😉
And I love Yoga too Amanda. I haven’t been able to do it much lately since the place that teaches Yoga near by has the worst hours. I hope I can find a new school soon though.
Have a great week you guys! 😉

  • Gen that brownie looks amazing! Also, love the hair!
Amanda – That is so exciting that you have two new activities. The yoga sounds awesome! Great book haul this week! I can’t wait to see your review on the Lauren Graham book!

  • Looks like another fabulous reading week.

Gen- What did you think about Accidentally on Purpose? I didn’t love it but I liked it okay.

Both of your IG pics are fabulous!

Have a great reading week, ladies!

  • Michelle

That brownie a la mode looks AMAZING and I WANT ONE NOW. Also, YAY ACOMAF!

Amanda, I’m curious what you thought of Heartless — I just finished it recently myself, so I’ll be keeping my eyes peeled for your review 🙂

  • Jolene Wilson

I LOVE the ACOMAF series. I met Sarah Maas in Chicago in May. She was so lovely and beautiful. She signed my books. I can’t wait for the third! I also love the Bone Season Books. I just finished The Song Rising. It was so good. I will have a post up about that in a day or so. http://www.jolenewilsonblog.wordpress.com

  • Brownie a la Mode sounds SO GOOD, I could totally go for that right now 😀 I also got Letters to the Lost recently, and it sounds like a wonderful read. Lovely wrap-up! 🙂

    Brittany @ Brittany’s Book Rambles

  • Yay Amanda – so glad to hear you had a good experience at the drop-in centre! I’m an early years librarian in B.C., and we have similar programs here that are so great for new parents/caregivers and their little ones – sometimes I think theses sorts of programs are even more important for the adults than for the kiddies, because it’s such a great way to meet fellow sleep-deprived grownups who can totally to relate! 🙂

  • Dammit, Gen, you always post delicious look food! Now I want something sweet. 🙂 That’s great, Amanda! Both activities sound fun. Have a great … rest of the week.
