Weekly Latte Rewind is a weekly feature where we will recap posts, books read, books we received and other bookish stuff. We’ve linked to Stacking the Shelves hosted by  Tynga’s Reviews and The Sunday Post hosted by  Caffeinated Book Reviewer.

  • We started celebrating V-Day on Saturday night because we thought we wouldn’t do anything the day of V-Day (and our 1 year 6-month celebration). So we went out to our fave restaurant and had Fried Cheesecake! On Sunday, we went to the beach with friends and then a coffee date that included Brownie a la Mode, a Strawberry Shake, and a Frappuccino made of coffee, toasted almonds, chocolate, and cookies.
  • On Valentine’s Day, we went to Mona Restaurant and got fulllll with food! I had Crème Brûlée French Toasts and Cappuccino, while my BF had French Toasts, Veggie Omelette with sautéed potatoes, bread, and Strawberry Lemonade.
  • After that, we went Ice Skating and gosh, it was the best time ever. We had a laughing fit for a good 10 minutes and we laid down on the ice like we did on our very first date <3

  • My BFF and I had our Galentine’s date at Cafelados but it started to rain and we didn’t want to go inside because it was freezing so we went to another coffee shop, It’s Coffee Time, and ordered more coffee! (That Monday, my body had 40 oz of caffeine in less than 4 hours.) We also exchanged gifts! I loved what she got me!

  • I got sick so I wasn’t supposed to go out at night. I still went out though and had such a great time! We were around 15 people! There was karaoke so everyone sang until the place closed, and we also took advantage of watching a little bit of the Celtics vs. Bulls game. I still can’t believe Celtics lost over a damn foul. I was very pissed about this. Anyway, I had a really great time and got home after 1 AM, which took a toll on my sickness but whatever LOL.

for review

The Bookish Box sent a few Bookstagrammers this lovely box that had TILL DEATH inside along with a mug, door hanger, invitation to the Till Death wedding, a candle (should be arriving soon), and bubble bath bottle that smells like Hazelnut and French Vanilla in my opinion!

I screamed when I got Undeclared and Blacksouls!! These two have been on my highly anticipating list so I’m beyond ecstatic to have gotten approved!

I have never read a book by KF. But on Thursday night, a group of Booktsagrammers made a chat on Facebook for the ones attending the Holiday with Belles event next year and KF was mentioned a million times (no joke) and two other girls decided to read it so I joined in on the buddy-reading! We should start in March 🙂

I was expecting this book to be great but it fell flat for me (review).

I’m buddy-reading I See You with Talina from Sassy N Dangerous! I’m almost done with the book and it’s been so good! I’ll be starting The Drifter this coming week 🙂

Happy (belated) Valentine’s Day Latte Readers!!
Unlike Gen, my ass is single and Valentine’s Day is NOT a day of celebration! So MOVING ON!
(not that it was even when I was in a relationship – take your fake holiday and go away Hallmark!)

Spencer has two more teeth coming in!!!!
He already had his two, front bottom teeth, and this week, his two, front TOP teeth are working their way out!!!
He’s growing up too fast!! Make it stop!!

This is has been a huge mental health week for me!
After months (and months, and months) of waiting I finally had an appointment on Monday with a psychiatrist at CAHM (Centre for Addiction and Mental Health) to get my medications sorted out, as well as to start figuring out my options for additional help (one-on-one talk therapy, group therapy, etc). Unfortunately, I can’t understand a word this guy says! Seriously! His accent is super heavy and I only understood maybe 50% of what he said!
Let me just say, in case you couldn’t guess, I am PISSED!
After months, this is what I get?!?!?! #notimpressed #shittymentalhealthcare
He did up my medication, and start me on a new medication… All I know about this new medication is that I am starting with 1/2 a pill, and can go up to 2 pills. I don’t even know why I am taking it!!

Anyway, to make a long story slightly shorter… my meds ruined me from Monday eve until Wednesday morn. Legit, if you have not ever taken mood altering medications – you cannot imagine the ravaging it does to your body and your mind. It is different for everyone; for me, my equilibrium goes, I get a brain busting migraine, my body feels weak and tired, I vomit… It sucks! And it isn’t exactly easy to explain to ones boss.
Thankfully, my meds have now balanced, and I am back to life!

[picture coming! sorry y’all, boss had an emergency and I have three kids now! Ahhhh]

This is all the books I’ve gotten since my last Latte Rewind post! I’m actually so sad because this is a hefty drop in my usual book acquisition – damn you adulting!!

  1. Yay for Spencer’s teeth! He’s really growing so fast.
You crack me up 😂 Honestly we were eh for Vday but Vday is always our half year (6 month mark so this year it was 1 year and 6 months) so we really like celebrating that 🙂
I feel your frustration with the psych. Can you switch to someone else? Google the new medication to make sure it’s actually useful. I really hated the mood altering/controlling thoughts mess. One of them would put me so sleeeeepy. It felt like having two boulders on each eyelid. And the other took away my appetite. Both of them I stopped taking and I’m glad I did. It taught me to try to do it myself and not depend on meds and so far, it has worked 🙂
(Can’t wait to see your haul!)

  2. Gen- Oh my gosh, your Valentine’s Day sounds like sugar shock but I love it! haha! Fried Cheesecake, Brownie-a-la-mode, French toast, and strawberry shake?! so jealous…and now I’m hungry! lol It sounds like you have a really great day. I’ve never been ice skating but I’ve really been wanting to go one day. Can’t wait to see what you think of Blacksouls!

Amanda- I’m so sorry to hear about the frustration with your mental health dr. That is so frustrating! I went through the same thing with my neurologist (that I had to wait 3 months for an appt for!). I’m normally okay with understand people’s accents but he was very hard to understand, so nothing ended up getting figured out and I had to see another neurologist. Hope everything gets settled for you soon! <3

  3. Ah. You are too cute for words, Gen (you and your beau). What a great way to spend Valentine’s Day – daysssss. LOL. Enjoy your reads!

I started Queen of the Tearling a couple of weeks ago but I stalled. I need to pick it up again because I did enjoy what I read so far it’s just life got in the way. Lol.

    Have a great week, ladies!

  4. Megan McDade

Gen you always get the yummist food and it makes me hungry LOL You and your boyfriend look so cute glad you have a great Valentine’s day. Amanda I hope you get everything sorted with your medication. Your little one is so cute I hope his teething isn’t causing him too much pain.

    Megan @reading away the days

  5. Mmmm, fried cheesecake. I’ll have to try that sometime. I baked a chocolate chip cheesecake last week and it was quite good – I wonder how fried cheesecake would turn out. I’m glad you had a great Valentine’s Day, Gen!

Amanda, I loved Johansen’s debut trilogy! The last book is SO mind-blowing, especially towards the end of the book. I love how Johansen blends multiple genres.

I hope you both have a lovely week! =)

Alyssa @ The Eater of Books!

  6. Charlie Anderson

Gen, all that food looks and sounds so delish! What a fantastic week! I hope you start feeling better soon!

Amanda, that’s how I felt after leaving my follow-up appointment for my sleep study results. I hope the medications are all worked out and your equilibrium gets back to itself this week.

  7. Sounds like you had a great week Gen! Your new books look great! And how wonderful that you celebrated Valentine’s Day and had a Galentine’s date. Love that! 😉

Sorry to hear about the trip to the psychiatrist Amanda. It sounds really frustrating. And I’m sorry to hear you felt so terrible due to your medication. I hope you keep feeling better.

Have a great week ladies and happy reading!

  8. Oh wow Gen sounds like you had an amazing Valentine’s and Galentine’s day!! Plus so many good books and that box looks awesome!! Sorry about your week Amanda. Glad your meds got all fixed. Enjoy your books and have a great week ladies!

  9. Ah – there’s that fried cheesecake talk again! Happy 1.5yrs! Your Weekend AND Valentines sounds awesome and ice skating sounded so special!

Amanda – I really want to read Queen of the Tearling! I’m glad you enjoyed it.

Sorry you had such a shitty week and I hope this one is so much better.

  10. Gen-you and your BF are too stinking cute!! Glad you had a wonderful valentine’s day.
Amanda-I can’t imagine waiting that long to see my doctor! Thats crazy! With medication for mental health, you need to be seen frequently in the beginning to ensure you have the correct dose. So sorry you waited all that time for nothing much to happen. Glad you at least got some meds. I would be totally lost without my meds. My biggest problem is finding a doc that will give me Ativan for emergency purposes. Its a controlled substance, so no doctor will write a script for me. Its very frustrating to be in the middle of a panic attack and not have Ativan. Thankfully my anxiety meds have reduced the need for the ativan but it sucks to not have it when I do have a panic attack.

  11. Oh no, Amanda! I’m sorry to hear that you had such an unpleasant experience. I’ve been really fortunate with my medical care, especially for my chronic and mental health problems. Having the right support team can really make all the difference, and having a good connection with your medical team is so important. Hopefully things work out in the long run!

  12. Gen – That sounds like an amazing Valentine’s Day. I also still need to try fried cheesecake!!

Amanda – I am so sorry that sounds awful. I feel like medicine is always a tricky one there is no perfect system for it sadly and mood altering always leads to feeling worse for a bit. I hope everything gets better soon!
